F.A.Q.'S |
|
Q. What must I do before I can start driving lessons ? A. A provisional driving licence must be obtained from DVLA
Swansea (application forms available at the Post Office), and you must
meet the minimum eyesight standard for driving which is reading a car
number plate at 20.5 metres.
Q. Do I need to pass the Theory Test before I can start my driving lessons ? A. No. In fact it is a good idea to learn both theory and practical at the same time so that the theory makes sense and is easier to understand and remember. We teach both. Q. Should I learn with an independent instructor a national driving school or get a friend to teach me? A. Unless your friend is a trained instructor it's unlikely they'll have the experience and knowledge needed - however they can be very useful for 'out-of'lesson' practice! Qualified ADI's (Approved Driving Instructors) have to keep up to date with current Test requirements (they'll have changed since your Dad/Mum's day!) and are periodically re-assessed for performance and skills. Whether you choose an Independent Intsructor or one tied to a National
School, make absolutely sure they are fully trained (some National schools
use instructors that are not yet fully qualified, and are still undergoing
training, you are part of their training course! Just as in other areas
of life there are different grades of Instructors - a higher graded
intructor 'should' be able to teach you to drive to Test Standard with
fewer lessons. Q. Do you have any special introductory rates or discounts? A.Yes, we offer discounts for Bike riders (CBT certificate), Overseas licence holders and experienced drivers [Refresher sessions]. Please call or e-mail for details. Q. How many lessons do I need to pass my L-test? A. There is no easy answer to this question as there is a tremendous
variation between different people in their ability to learn the co-ordination
and observational skills required to drive safely. Factors affecting
this include physical dexterity and age of the candidate. The Driving
Standards Agency have recently released figures and stated that
on average it is not unreasonable to have a combination of 33 professional
lessons together with 23 'out-of-lesson' practice hours, a total of
56 hours. One rule of thumb is 1.5hrs Professional Instruction per year
of age plus the same again of private practise. Remember this is an
average and some clients will need less and some more. Q. How often should I have my lessons ? A. How
often you have your lessons is entirely up to you. Most people have
two or three training sessions per week. This point depends on how well
you prepare for each lesson, how well you 'take-on-board' each new lesson
topic & how much practice you get between lessons.
Q. How can I be sure I will receive a satisfactory
service? A. No successful
business can afford to give a bad service. We abide by the Driving
Standards Agency Code of Conduct . Perhaps
more importantly, our success is driven by your success in passing your
driving test and obtaining your driving licence since your satisfaction
and recommendation is our best form of advertising.
Q. What car do you use for the lessons? A. A variety of
'small' cars e.g. Micra, Clio, Focus, 206, Beetle, etc.. are ideal to
make the process of Learning to Drive as easy and quick as possible.
Whichever car is assigned for your lessons it will be the same car each
time, it passes the DSA Requirements for a Test Vehicle, it will be
available for you to take your Test in, it will have full dual controls,
power steering, air conditioning, and is fully adjustable so that it
is suitable for drivers of all sizes.
Q. Will you help me with the Theory Test? A. We can supply
you with approved Books, CD-roms and other media to help you with home
study. We can also supply 'Laptop computers' on a Loan basis, where
needed. We can perform a Mock Theory Test with you . As the theory and
practical sides of driving are taught side-by-side we will cover practical
examples of the Theory elements as each lesson progresses.
Q. What about more advanced instruction ? A. Driving to Test Standard is only the first, small step to becoming a proficient and safe driver - ask any candidiate who has just achieved their Licence!. We teach Pass
Plus which gives a new driver further instruction
after passing their test on specifics such as motorway & night driving.
Beyond this we also teach Advanced Driving to allow established drivers
to improve existing skills, become smoother, adapt to different vehicles,
tow trailer/caravans, refresh skills such as parking, reversing, skid-pan
work, etc.. |
